action for children commissioned a series of three consecutive saturday arts workshops in the run up to christmas with pembrokeshire young carers and the hawthorn project
participants from both groups of young people made a fantastic array of seasonal decorations using a wide range of found and recycled materials including wire and beads, pebbles and paint, willow and buttons, recycled card and jam jars

funded through the reach the height programme and in partnership with SPAN arts spacetocreate worked with a group of 8 young people from bush school autistic unit making christmas decorations from wire and completed the year long programme of work by creating a celebratory flag marking the seasons

celebrate christmas
this final instalment of the farmers market project involved year 6 pupils from mary immaculate school finding out about the production of turkeys for the christmas farmers market with a visit to cuckoo mill farm - see a record of the visit here
the children made life drawings of the turkeys which can be seen here, to inspire their turkey sculptures made from willow and tissue paper- see the making gallery here

celebrate the harvest
in september artists seren stacey and pip lewis worked with the year 5 class in ysgol glan cleddau primary school on the third of four seasonal projects to link local schools with the haverfordwest farmers market
pupils visited the Market forinspiration for their drawings which can be see here and these drawings were used to create wire sculptures which were exhibited from 28th september to october 7th 2012 at the riverside shopping centre

the way we sea it
a black and white digital photography project working with young people from milford haven youth club to raise awareness of seafarers and broaden understanding within the community of their importance both locally and nationally
involving location shoots in and around the haven the project culminated in the young people selecting work for an exhibition at the torch theatre which can be seen here and images for reproduction as a set of postcards which can be seen here |
story lab summer reading challenge
artists from spacetocreate community arts worked with 5 groups of children at 5 libraries participating in the pembrokeshire libraries summer reading challenge
the children worked together in small groups to create shadow puppet characters and develop stories for performing to the rest of the group on professor cortex's shadow puppet computer screen

oriel myrddin art all summer long
artists from spacetocreate contributed workshops to oriel myrddin's lively programme of creative summer holiday workshops for children inspired by the visiting british council exhibition
up the garden path explored printing techniques and petals and paint provided an opportunity to take a closer look at flowers and colour mixing

pembroke festival opening procession
toby downing guy norman pip lewis and britta winkler worked with young people at monkton and the tanyard youth clubs to make the spectacular giant figures of princess nest and gerald de windsor to lead the opening procession for pembroke festival 2012
workshops were also held in golden grove community school monkton priory community school and two open community workshops to create hand-held celebratory artefacts to bring along on the procession

celebrate pembrokeshire fishweek
a year 4 class from fenton primary school inspired by a trip to claws shellfish shop in johnston worked with spacetocreate to make and decorate their own fish using willow and tissue to bring along to a procession through the farmers market on june 29th to celebrate pembrokeshire fishweek 2012
the project was the second in a series of 4 linking local children to haverfordwest farmers market funded by the ernest cook trust and the milford haven port authority

pembroke dock midsummer festival
taking the queens diamond jubilee as a starting point artists from spacetocreate worked with local schools and the wider community on a day to remember a project providing opportunities to reflect on and celebrate their own anniversaries and special days through the making of crowns
everyone was invited to make their own crown to wear and decorate a small 2D crown to attach to a giant fantasy crown celebrating the last 6 decades of the queens reign

funded through the reach the height programme and in partnership with SPAN arts spacetocreate worked with 2 groups of young people from bush school autistic unit over six weeks using istopmotion and time lapse photography to create short animated films using a variety of media including drawing collage and model making
the resulting work was collated into a showcase film that can be seen on the video site vimeo here

walwyns castle jubilee bunting
we were invited to run a bunting making workshop for the community of walwyns castle as part of the preparations for their celebration of the queens golden jubilee
engaging all ages and abilities the workshop provided opportunities for everyone to design and print bunting flags inspired by nature using the colours red white and blue to give the end result a festive feeling

putting yourself in the picture
more than 50 people of all ages worked together to create a moving picture celebrating the history of the market town of haverfordwest in west wales
supported by the arts council of wales the day was run in partnership with film maker sharron harris from curious ostrich productions with help from volunteers jack wheatley an undergraduate student studying Illustration at camberwell college of arts and katherine morgan a textiles graduate from university of the west of england

oriel myrddin nest fest
venturing out of pembrokeshire we were invited to take part in nest fest oriel myrddin's week of arts activities for children celebrating easter
over two mornings a group of young people and their parents made eggs using gumstrip tape and some colourful birds from willow and tissue

monkton winter workshops
a short programme of workshops for all ages to create two artworks for display in the old priory community centre
the first of these is a painted panel made of small canvases with leaf motifs representing all the people who use the centre and the second a welcoming mosaic mural for the entrance to the building

span half-term print workshop
a day of print making workshops with children and young people during the spring half-term holiday
the children and young people explored block printing onto bunting using potatoes and had a chance to have a go at monoprinting
